The Silent Mills series is based on the Timmer in our Origins series and its fairy smoky flavour. A whisky created with the ambition to let the quiet smoke taste sweep in like veils of mist from the river. Silent Mills is also a tribute to the many sawmills that once lined the banks of the Ångerman River in the area where our distillery is now located, sawmills that have long since fallen silent. The Box sawmill was named after the product it delivered: Box blanks intended for the English market. The sawmill burned down in 1890 and when a steam power plant was built on the same site in 1912, it was given the same name as the old sawmill had: Box. However, this particular building has been used since December 23, 2010 for something completely different: Whisky production.
