The Stanley 220 Block Plane is a professional-grade adjustable hand plane designed for precision woodworking tasks. Featuring a robust grey iron body, this compact plane offers adjustable depth of cut and blade alignment for versatile performance across a range of applications. Block planes are specifically engineered to cut end grain effectively, with the cutting blade bedded at a lower angle with the bevel facing upwards. This shallow bed angle enables the blade to slice through end grain more efficiently, particularly when the plane is held at an angle of up to 45° to the direction of travel. The compact size allows for comfortable one-handed operation, making it ideal for detailed work where control and manoeuvrability are essential. Beyond cutting end grain, this block plane excels at fine-tuning joinery and cabinetry work. It's perfect for removing thin shavings to achieve precise tolerances, chamfering square edges, and cleaning up glue lines. The 40mm cutter width provides sufficient coverage for most general-purpose tasks whilst maintaining the tool's compact 180mm length for easy handling.
